Watercolor is the most popular of all the painting media, and the favorite subject is landscape. This book joins the medium with the subject in a new approach to painting that gives you the information and guidance you need to paint beautiful watercolor landscapes. First, you'll explore the range of materials, methods, and terminology of watercolor painting - from sponging and spattering to wet-in-wet and wax resist. Then you'll see how watercolors can be applied to specific subjects. The A-Z directory presents the most popular landscape subjects, plus a variety of methods that can be used to capture each one. The techniques, each fully illustrated with step-by-step demonstrations, cover a full range, including some unusual tricks of the trade that may surprise you. In the final section, you'll explore thematic treatments in a gallery of finished paintings by professional artists. Informative text and captions highlight the techniques each artist used, explaining why each technique was chosen and what effects it achieves.
