Finding My Humanity: I am because you are

In a world grappling with rising authoritarianism, attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, and deep divisions, Finding My Humanity is more relevant than ever. Ryan Ubuntu Olson’s memoir is not just a story of personal transformation—it is a call to action, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and a roadmap for those seeking to create change in an increasingly uncertain world in these authoritarian times. Born into a rural, conservative community in Colorado, Ryan struggled to navigate his identity in a world that often sought to diminish it. What began as a deeply personal journey of self-discovery—facing discrimination, love, heartbreak, and loss—became something far greater. Thrust into activism on a conservative Catholic campus, Ryan’s courage to speak out against injustice catapulted him onto the national and international stages. From there, he embarked on a global mission, working alongside thought leaders, human rights advocates, and communities fighting for survival and dignity of all people, everywhere, in all their diversity. Traveling to the far corners of the world, from Kenya to Jamaica, Peru to Malawi, Cambodia, to Geneva, Ryan became a leading voice in the fight for LGBTQ+ dignity and human rights. His journey took him from the front lines of activism in the US, to supporting advocates around the world in different countries, to the halls of the United Nations, shaping policies, and advocating for those who have been silenced for too long. But Finding My Humanity is more than just one man’s story—it is a testament to the power of turning one’s ‘why’ into their ‘how’. It is a guide for anyone searching for purpose, a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness as human beings, and the courage to step forward in the face of adversity. Through his experiences, Ryan offers readers a roadmap to transforming personal convictions into meaningful action.
