About the Actor
Corey Christiansen began playing the guitar at the age of five. He studied with his father, Mike Christiansen, (a seasoned performer, writer, and educator at Utah State University) until he finished his bachelor degree. While at Utah State University, Corey received many honors and awards including the outstanding music student award and outstanding guitarist. The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival awarded Corey with outstanding big band guitarist in 1995 and outstanding solo guitarist in 1995 and 1996.
Seeking a masters degree in jazz performance, Corey sought out renowned jazz guitar educator, Jack Petersen and began studies as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of South Florida. He received his masters degree in jazz performance in the spring of 1999. Jack Petersen retired that same year and Corey was hired to take his place as the adjunct guitar instructor. While teaching at the University of South Florida, Corey worked with the jazz guitar students and directed many of the jazz combos.
Corey left USF to pursue a career at Mel Bay Publications, Inc. as their guitar editor. Corey has a musical background covering many styles of music including jazz, blues, classical, bluegrass, folk, rock and popular music. This quality has enabled him to perform in a number of different settings. As the guitar editor at Mel Bay Publications, Inc., Corey is available to do clinics on various guitar related subjects at schools and music stores around the country.
Barry Greene grew up in North Bergen, New Jersey, and started to play the guitar when he was ten years old. Strongly influenced by Wes Montgomery, George Benson, and Pat Martino, Barry has devloped into a world class guitarist. He has performed on the Jacksonville, Clearwater, Naples, Sarasota, Savannah, Gainesville, and Pocono jazz festivals, and has recorded and performed with such artists as Nat Adderly, Benny Golson, Phil Woods, Jack Wilkins, Kenny Drew, Jr., Adam Nussbaum, Colin Bailey, Warren Bernhardt, Russell Malone, Gene Bertoncinni, Kenny Poole, and Jimmy Bruno.
Barry Greene's debut solo CD, "Sojourner," was released in late 1998 and has been well received by the press, which led to his inclusion on the Southern Arts Federation's "Jazz South" project (released in February of 1999). His artistry can also be heard on Jack Wilkins' album "Artwork" (Koch Jazz label) and "Surge" with Chuck Owen and the Jazz Surge (Sea Breeze Records), as well as several other CD releases.
After attending Berklee College of Music Barry Greene received his B.M. in 1984 from William Paterson College under the direction of Rufus Reid. His M.M. was earned in 1995 at the University of South Florida at which time he was the adjunct applied guitar instructor. Currently Greene is the Assistant Professor of Jazz Guitar at the University of North Florida, recognized by jazz educators as one of the finest schools in the nation.
