About this item
Review
These live recordings may have the energy of teenagers slashing away at cheap guitars, but the level of virtuosity, nuance, and refinement here is remarkable. The eleven selections, eight of them composed by Meyer and Kendall, are informed by a number of flavors, notably bluegrass, swing, and American roots music. ... The sound is exceptionally involving up-close and immediate - and these three guys can stand the sonic scrutiny. -- Absolute Sound, January 2010
Time for Three provides that rare mix of the untamed energy of folk and rock, and the perfect calibration of the chamber ensemble. The twinned violins dazzle with Bluegrass/gypsy virtuosity and clean, scampering parallel lines in "Forget About It," and a fresh, tight blues sound, complete with sure-footed, grungy double-stopping, in "Don Don." They are helped in this by the deft touch of composer/arranger Ranaan Meyer, whose pieces are both referential and original, and whose zesty playing in accompaniment adds a further shot in the arm. His moments centre stage are just as impressive: the bowed melody in the opening "Wyoming 307" shines like a pale moon, while the pizzicato chords in "Sundays" are spotless. -- The Strad, January 2010
Product Description
A flavor of Americana, Jazz, Rock, Classical and something indefinable make Time For three the band for the 21st Century. Zach De Pue, Nick Kendall & Ranaan Meyer met as students at the prestigious Curtis Institure of Music in Phildelphia. They would get together and jam in their spare time. From mountain tunes to originals to the music of Leonard Cohen & Imogene Heap, Time For Three has created a new sound that can appeal to any music fan.
