Review All in all, a very solid effort. -- Rod McBride, JAM (Jazz Ambassador Magazine), October/November 2003 Product Description Novak & Haar's "A Summer's Carol" is the first CD to be released by the guitar and bass duo of Jon Novak and Mark Haar. The imputous behind recording this album was to present Jon and Mark's idea of how they thought a jazz guitar trio could sound. This presentation is fairly unique in that it features very clean, transparent textures that allows the listener to easily hear everything that is happening in the band at all times. Jon and Mark selected tunes that are found in both the standard jazz and popular music genres. Also included are three original tunes written by Jon. About the Artist Jon Novak has been playing guitar professionally since 1970. After touring the Midwest and playing a wide variety of guitar styles from musicals to blues, he now concentrates his efforts on his love for jazz guitar. He also spends time composing and arranging; his church liturgy is being premiered May 4, 2003. He has recorded two CDs - the first in 1997 with Blue House and the second in 2002 with Novak & Haar. He currently teaches guitar privately and at Grace University. Mark Haar has been playing bass for ten years. During that time he has played in many differing musical genres. Most often, he has been seen playing with many different jazz ensembles, everything from a small duo to a large big band jazz ensemble. Another home for Mark is the symphonic orchestra. Mark has played with the Omaha Symphony and Chamber Orchestra and was Principal Bass of the Sioux City Symphony. Currently he is a member of the Lincoln Symphony. Mark has also spent time playing with blues bands, worship bands and musical theater pit orchestras.
