Respecting and caring for one’s parents (birr al-walidayn) is one of the foundational aspects of human society that all major religions and cultures teach. The lessons of birr al walidayn have been reaffirmed and clarified by the Book of Allah and the teachings of the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam). Rather than merely stating the general principle of birr, the lessons of Islam have provided amazingly detailed lessons and rules for how to interact with parents in all aspects of our lives. The student will learn how to implement the “Five Rulings” of Shariah in respect to the Rights of Parents.
