altered-ego
Altered Ego
About the Artist

Deborah Henson-Conant started improvising when she was three. She hated music lessons and refused to practice the classics. She'd sit all day singing and improvising theatrical, jazzy piano pieced and composing musical theater until her parents started to worry. They tried every instrument they could think of, sure that one of them would inspire "serious" study. When they brought a harp home, the twelve-year-old took one look at it, said, "This is a sissy instrument," and went back to the piano.
In 1981, she moved to Boston, and her lifelong interest in improvisation found an outlet through jazz. She studied and performed standard bebop and blues and in 1983 formed her first band, The Jazz Harp Trio, the same year she produced her full length musical comedy about nuclear war, "Ground Zero".
As a composer, she won grants and commission for her theater music including a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Grant, the Massachusetts Artists Fellowship and "Meet the Composer" Grant.
In 1988, she signed a three-year recording contract with GRP Records and then went on to record CDs in Hungary, Germany and the U.S. both for Laika Records and her own record company, Golden Cage Music.
As a composer/performer, Deborah collaborates on other artistic projects. Deborah has performed original compositions with the Boston Pops, the Baltimore Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic, the Austin Symphony, the Pittsburgh Pops, and the Phoenix Symphony, to name a few, and worked with conductors such as Marvin Hamlish, Keith Lockhart, and Doc Severinsen. Her one-woman show, "Altered Ego", premiered in Boston in June '98 for an extended run.
Deborah is also a prolific cartoonist and author of short stories, operettas, plays, musical theater and a screenplay-some of which have been published or produced and others of which are safely tucked away in a large drawer. Deborah is also the curator, founder and primary artistic contributor of/to the Museum of Burnt Food. You can visit the Museum and learn more about Deborah by visiting her website at www.hipharp.com.
Deborah plays a concert grand electric harp by Lyon and Healy and a "Baby Blue" celtic harp by CAMAC Harps.
Deborah has recorded a dozen CDs.

Product Description

An eclectic solo mix of voice and instrumental folk/jazz/blues with a singer-songwriter flavor. This album includes Deborah's most requested song, "Congratulations, You Made It This Far" (the birthday song).

From the Artist

Altered Ego is the final version of my CD, Alter Ego, which was initially released, in a limited, signed run of 2,000 copies. It's too easy to see CDs as commercial product. I want to treat them as works of art-art that will change as I change. This CD is a reflection of vast musical styles, ranging from funk to blues to pop to folk to calypso to improvisational jazz, making it gloriously impossible to categorize.
ASIN: B00000IJX6
VSKU: DBV.B00000IJX6.G
Condition: Good
Author/Artist:Deborah Henson-Conant
Binding: Audio cd
Note: Any images shown are stock photographs and product may differ from what is shown.
Condition Notes: Individually inspected: Guaranteed to play perfectly or your money back.
