The two redheads are still blending voices, and their third album together, Away out on the Mountain, recalls the special sibling chemistry of Kate & Anna McGarrigle's best recordings. The O'Briens sing beautifully--with Tim's twangy tenor putting the twist into Mollie's pure, full-bodied soprano--but just as important is their ability to pick great songs and arrange them imaginatively. Neither O'Brien wrote any of the 14 songs on this album, but their choices betray a commitment to the strain of rural American music that runs through the folk, blues, bluegrass, country, and pop genres, marked by an unassuming stoicism in bad times and a wry humor in good. --Geoffrey Himes

Product description

A new Tim O'Brien album is always cause for celebration, doubly so when he is joined by sister Mollie. Carter and Leadbelly through to modern writers like Lucinda Williams and newcomer to the Nashville scene, Gillian Welch. The backings are as delicate as one would wish. Discounting the snare and high hat that provide a subdued percussion, rarely more than three musicians are used on any track..
ASIN: B000000F3J
VSKU: DBV.B000000F3J.G
Condition: Good
Author/Artist:Tim And Mollie O'Brien
Binding: Audio CD
Note: Any images shown are stock photographs and product may differ from what is shown.
Condition Notes: Individually inspected: Guaranteed to play perfectly or your money back.
