About this item

About the Artist The first song Alfie Boe `The People's Tenor', ever performed on stage was Bring Him Home, the showstopper from Les Miserables. Little did he know, at the age of 14, that this would form the title of his first album to be released on Decca Records. A couple of years after this first performance the teenage Alfie became an apprentice car mechanic at a sports car factory in Blackpool. Having discovered opera at a young age from listening to his father's records, Alfie would often sing to entertain his colleagues. One day he was overheard by a customer who was so impressed he suggested Boe should go to London and audition for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. Over thousands of hopefuls Alfie landed the job. Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe was born 35 years ago in Blackpool, a seaside town in the north west of England and brought up in nearby Fleetwood. As the youngest of 9 children, little did Alfie's parents know that the baby of the family would grow up to be one of the finest British tenors of his generation. His mother of Irish and father of Norwegian descent respectively, loved classical music. On Sundays the family would sit around the dining table whilst Alfie's father would listen to his favourite tenor, Richard Tauber. Alfie would sit patiently waiting to be excused so he could go and play football. Many years later he realized the immense effect those Sunday afternoons would have on his life. Alfie went on to study at The Royal College of Music and then The Royal Opera House; there it was that he received a call changing his plans. The caller was Baz Luhrmann who, after spending two years looking for one of the main leads for his controversial production of Puccini's La Boheme, approached Alfie for the role. "We came to London to hear a young tenor called Alfie Boe who turned out to be absolutely extraordinary." - Baz Luhrmann Things just got better and better for Boe, and this year in particular has been an eventful one. After taking the lead role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables at The Queens Theatre, Alfie lead the cast in Cameron Mackintosh's 25th Anniversary celebration of Les Mis at London's 02 Arena. This momentous occasion has been captured on DVD, to be released by Universal Pictures. Alfie will then be returning to the stage production in the same role next year. Alfie brings a hugely successful year to a close with the release of his new album - his finest to date - Bring Him Home. He delivers a wonderful selection of many of the greatest of all show tunes, from such Rodgers & Hammerstein evergreens as Some Enchanted Evening and If I Loved You through to more recent winners from Sunset Boulevard, Moulin Rouge and, of course, Les Miserables. The tenor is joined by a couple of distinctive voices for two mesmerising duets: West End star Kerry Ellis for a powerful performance of Come What May and none other than comedian Matt Lucas in the first duet version of The Impossible Dream. With Alfie Boe's ringing tenor voice, the magic of the musical has never sounded more enchanting. Product description Hightlight of this album include Alfie's DUETS with Kerry Ellis and Matt Lucas!!
