We come from the Indian Village of Otavalo, a small community of hard working people, artisans, farmers, and folk musicians. We, the members of Ecuador Manta, believe in maintaining the personal and spiritual growth, and also the rich culture and traditions that we have inherited from our ancestors, the lncas. We carry the music and dance of our ancestors in our blood as an expression of our feelings. Furthermore, we carry the message of peace and brotherhood to the world by means of our music. Our performances include singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments from South America. The traditional instruments we use are zamponas (pipes made of bamboo), charango (string instrument made from an armadillo shell), chagchas (percussion instrument made of sheep nails), traditional guitars, bandolin (a medium size string instrument composed of 16 metallic strings), quenas (flutes of different sizes made from bamboo), bombo (skin covered drum), rondadores (pipes made of bamboo), pan flutes, etc. We also play violin and bass which are instruments used in Western culture.
