He studied the erhu at the prestigious Conservatory of Xian. Lei Qiang toured for 11 years with the Shaanxi Provincial Song and Dance Troupe. His travels took him to every major city in China including Hong Kong and Japan. In 1993 he emigrated to Canada and recorded with the Cirque du Soliel on the Quidam album and on the new Cirque du Soleil entitled O. From 1982 to 1993, Mr. Lei toured Beijing, Shanghai and all the other major Chinese cities with the Shaanxi Provincial Song and Dance Troupe continuing his studies under Yu Feng Yang, Wu Tong and Guan Min.
