Few arrivals and departures in ER's long history were quite as spectacular as those in its 10th season. In the arrival department: new nurse Sam Taggart (Linda Cardellini) enters in almost superhuman fashion to take down a rogue patient, while other new faces include students Neela Rasgotra (Parminder Nagra) and residents Archie Morris (Scott Grimes) and Nick "Coop" Cooper (Glenn Howerton). In the departure department: Romano's (Paul McCrane) response to a labor situation ushers out several stalwart characters, and then there's what we'll simply refer to as Helicopter Incident #2, which along with a military tank almost pushed the season straight over the top. Carter (Noah Wyle) and Luka (Goran Visnjic) continue their adventures in Africa, and the former finds a love interest in AIDS worker Makemba "Kem" Likasu (Thandie Newton). Lewis (Sherry Stringfield) befriends an architect losing his eyesight (Bob Newhart in an Emmy-nominated guest appearance), Chen (Ming-Na) and Weaver (Laura Innes) suffer through difficult personal situations, Abby (Maura Tierney) resumes medical school yet stays on as a nurse, and Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) is accused of wrongdoing. Corday (Alex Kingston) becomes head of surgery, and an incident of road rage provides the season-ending cliffhanger. Notable guest appearances include Hallee Hirsh as Rachel Greene, daughter of the late doctor who visits the ER while on college tour. --David Horiuchi
