Josh Turner is the quintessential rising country star: a South Carolina native with a thrilling baritone voice and a penchant for wrapping it around heart-tugging songs of God, family, and community. On Everything is Fine, his follow-up to the double-platinum Your Man, Turner puts a more personal stamp on his message while still acknowledging his roots. He also reaches beyond his circle on a duet with r&b prince Anthony Hamilton on the latter's "Nowhere Fast," though the material doesn't precisely fit his image or his phrasing. Writing / co-writing seven of the 12 tracks, Turner particularly shines on the title song, in which a man takes stock of his life and finds it all to his liking. The affecting love ballad "Soulmate," is one of two songs he wrote with country titan John Anderson. There's room for nit-picking: "Another Try," which features Trisha Yearwood, doesn't make the best use of her mesmerizing gifts, while "Trailerhood" perpetuates every white trash stereotype. When he launches into a cover of the Johnny Horton classic "One Woman Man," however, he dutifully scrapes the bottom of his register on the chorus and playfully employs George Jones leaps on the verses, and all is forgiven. --Alanna Nash

Recording information: Blackbird Studios, Nashville, TN; The Castle, Franklin, TN; The Sound Kitchen, Franklin, TN. Photographers: Russ Harrington; Mark Tucker . Maintaining his position as a pure-country neo-traditionalist in a Nashville focused more on crossover success, Josh Turner's third album makes one concession to life in a post-Big and Rich world, a surprisingly effective duet with neo-soul R&B singer Anthony Hamilton on "Nowhere Fast." Otherwise, EVERYTHING IS FINE is as casual and diffident as its title, from the rollicking first single, "Firecracker," to a lovely ballad duet with Trisha Yearwood, "Another Try."
From the Artist
"Growing up, traditional country music was always where my heart was at," he says, "because those songs were speaking about the life that I was living in rural South Carolina. It was all about love and work and life and just the everyday stuff that people go through. It has always made me feel good-- the melodies, the lyrics-- so that's what I'm trying to carry on."
About the Artist
His debut album, Long Black Train, sold more than one million copies and his sophomore album, Your Man, was one of only four country albums to reach double-platinum status in 2006. Two of his singles-- "Your Man" and "Would You Go With Me"-- have become multi-week number one hits, he's an in-demand touring act, and he's been nominaated in the Country Music Association Awards' prestigious Male Vocalist category.
Josh is also continuously heralded by critics as one of the brightest young stars in country music today and his voice has been compared to the legendary Johnny Cash. This status is marked by his recent invitation to be one the youngest members of the famed Grand Ole Opry. Turner will be formally inducted by one of his Idols, Vince Gill, on October 27, 2007.
