About this item

Review "Calling this music 'smart rock' . . . does a disservice to the emotional sweep of the music. . . " -- Joel Selvin, San Francisco Chronicle "They pack their songs full of enough heady words and phrases to fill a Greil Marcus-style rock critique." -- Gus Stadler, SF Weekly "This is one one of the boldest and most literate albums released in years." -- Scott Benarde, Y-NOT "World Entertainment War has all the ingredients to bring the band into MTV rotation." -- John Hogle, BAM "['Give Too Much' is] cheerfully anarchist, socially conscious, warmly humanist, charmingly goofy, and sternly pop." -- Deb Finley, Detroit Metro Times World Entertainment War, when viewed through the history presented in "The Televisionary Oracle," is more than an outlet for Brezsny's musical leanings. It is quite possibly the result of a prolific and prophetic performance artist and his band of co-conspirators. -- Instant Planet Quarterly Product Description A tribal funk soundtrack for the entertainment guerilla in all of us, "Give Too Much" celebrates the radical doctrine of PRONOIA. The opposite of paranoia, PRONOIA dares you to believe that the whole world is conspiring to shower you with blessings. About the Artist Lyricist and lead singer Rob Brezsny co-lead singer Darby Gould back-up singer and keyboardist Amy Excolere bassist Daniel Lewis drummer Anthony Kevin Guess lead guitarist George Earth World Entertainment War is as much fun as you can have during a war. Rhythmically titillating, melodically therapeutic, vocally incendiary, this band of friendly wild men and wild women incites its listeners to simultaneously think and dance and kick their own asses. "Theater" is too wimpy a word for what happens at their live shows. Imagine instead a pagan revival meeting mixed with a dance therapy session and a cynics' pep rally and a tribal hoedown and a lecture at the "Anarchists Just Wanna Have Fun" Think Tank. Likewise, "rock opera" is too pretentious a category to describe "Give Too Much." Imagine instead a 70-minute spectacle of 16 killer songs interwoven with a conceptually rich musical tapestry of sly subliminals, hilarious media critiques, satirical commercials, and snippets of benevolent propaganda. The four men and two women of World Entertainment War have been compared to the Jefferson Airplane jamming with the Red Hot Chili Peppers on songs written by the Talking Heads. Another critic described them as Frank Zappa and Janis Joplin sitting in with Faith No More on a Midnight Oil set. And in fact, both these scenarios come close to describing the way WEW mixes its delectable lyrics and infectious rhythms with the intoxicating rapid-fire interplay of its male and female lead vocalists, Rob Brezsny and Darby Gould.
