Born in Seattle, Washington and raised in Eugene, Oregon, Dan holds degrees in composition and Jazz Studies and studied piano with the legendary Madam Challoff. His first album was produced by Inner City Records in 1980 while his second album with the label reached number 1 on the Radio & Records Jazz Chart andd remained for 10 weeks in the top 10 of Billboard's Jazz Chart. In 1983 Dan moved to Los Angeles to pursue film and television work and to become involved in a more active recording career. Dan has worked over the years with artists such as Glenn Freym Chaka Khan, Berlin, Philip Bailey, Kenny Rankin, Hugh Masakela and Herbie Hancock.
