here-among-strangers
Here Among Strangers
Review

"The music is pulsing and vibrant, yet warmly embraces the sweet simplicity of classic Irish melody and lyric sentiment." -- Scott Alarik, Boston Globe, June 6, 2002

Product Description

"Here Among Strangers," the second release from Boston-based trio Siúcra is a superb collection of traditional Irish songs and tunes, expertly arranged. Sweetness never packed so much spank!

About the Artist

Siúcra is pronounced 'shoo-kruh', and it means 'sugar' in Irish.
Siúcra is Beth Leachman (lead vocals, bodhran), Shannon Heaton (Irish flute, whistles, backing vocals), and Matthew Heaton (guitar, backing vocals). They play Irish traditional tunes and songs, creating a sound which is full, rich and wholly satisfying.
Scott Alarik from the Boston Globe wrote, "the music is pulsing and vibrant, yet warmly embraces the sweet simplicity of classic Irish melody and lyric sentiment."
Siúcra formed in 1998 in Boulder, Colorado when Matthew and Shannon moved from Chicago to Boulder and met Colorado resident Beth. Their initial tours took them throughout the midwestern and western United States. With Matthew and Shannon now living in Boston, audiences in New England are also enjoying the exciting sounds of this accomplished trio.
Danny Carnahan from Acoustic Guitar wrote, "Siucra is full of hot musicianship, confidence, and unstoppable energy. A five-piece band would be hard-pressed to match the amount of music these three musicians produce."
Beth grew up in western Colorado. She learned about sean nos singing and about the Irish language in the West of Ireland.
Shannon learned to play Irish flute first in Chicago and Milwaukee, and has gone on to enjoy many fine sessions in Clare, Galway and Boston.
Matthew started on the guitar in his home town of Pittsburgh. His own very musical family as well as his ventures into the Irish fiddle have shaped his rhythmic and resonant guitar playing.
Their new release Here Among Strangers (May 2002) is a bold follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album, a place i know. The new recording explodes with bright new material, serious rhythm and a number of original Siúcra compositions. With a great new cd, and an ever-growing number of fans in Boulder, Boston, and points in between, Siúcra's future looks very sweet indeed.
ASIN: B00006ZGX1
VSKU: DBV.B00006ZGX1.G
Condition: Good
Binding: Audio CD
Note: Any images shown are stock photographs and product may differ from what is shown.
Condition Notes: Individually inspected: Guaranteed to play perfectly or your money back.
