The Mission of God and the Secret of the Golden Thread invites students on a global journey to evaluate the trustworthiness of the Bible and the claims that it makes. Throughout the journey, students will examine the plot and four significant motifs within the story of Scripture to uncover the secret of the Golden thread and how it applies to their lives. This course invites students on a global journey to examine the historicity and the plot of the greatest story ever told. Students will be challenged to objectively investigate four of the significant motifs throughout the plot of the Hebrew Bible.This is not a survey course but an introduction to a relational, missional God who created us with purpose and invites us to know Him, and not merely about Him. Students will be invited to consider a personal relationship and to practice a daily awareness in their approach and response to the God of the Bible. Students will interact with the disciplines of language, literary analysis, archeology, geography, and history while having the opportunity for a personal application and personal contribution. Students will produce several unique and distinct projects to demonstrate understanding and provide opportunities to practice creativity while building relational and communication skills, Learning OutcomesA. Students will examine the question of purpose and begin the process of understanding their unique story and God’s individual purpose for their lives in light of His eternal mission. B. Students will analyze the doctrine of the Imago Dei as it impacts their identity and how they relate to God and others. C. Students will identify and examine main events and developments within the overall story of the Bible and be able to connect characters, geography, and motifs into the whole historical plotline.D. Students will begin to lay the foundation for understanding the concepts of worldview and integration as discipleship by examining the theme of the Kingdom and glory of God that is introduced in Genesis 1 and culminates in Revelation 22. E. Students will be challenged to exercise personal creativity through project-based learning assessments designed to invite the communication of understanding and application. F. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the concepts they have learned by applying them through a cross-disciplinary project that is designed, assembled, developed, and constructed by their class.
