I prefer a lighter-toned Sandman, but Diana Montague cannot be faulted vocally or for her gentle singing, and Sarah Tynan's Dew Fairy is lovely. Rosalind Plowright's Mother is strong (she might have made a good Witch) and Robert Hayward sings the Father's music brightly (Mackerras leads his entrance "Tra-la-la-las" nice and quickly). Orchestra and chorus are superb. This set is a pleasure--the ideal Hansel in English, and perhaps in any language. -- ClassicsToday.com, Robert Levine, June 2008

The best English-language Hansel and Gretel on CD is Chandos's 2007 release, which features veteran Hansel enthusiast Charles Mackerras pacing the brother-and-sister act of Jennifer Larmore and Rebecca Evans. Larmore's Hansel is joined by Ruth Ziesak's Gretel in Donald Runnicles's engaging 1994 German-language performance (Teldec). Herbert von Karajan's star-studded 1953 recording (EMI) still glows, thanks to the magic teamwork of its two Elisabeths -- Grümmer (Hänsel) and Schwarzkopf (Gretel). -- Opera News, January 2010

Product Description

2008 GRAMMY Award Winner - Opera Performance
ASIN: B000PMGSCW
VSKU: DBV.B000PMGSCW.A
Condition: Acceptable
Author/Artist:Engelbert Humperdinck|Philharmonia Orchestra|Sir Charles Mackerras|Jennifer Larmore|Rebecca Evans|Jane Henschel|Rosalind Plowright|Robert Hayward|Sarah Tynan|Diana Montague
Binding: Audio cd
Note: Any images shown are stock photographs and product may differ from what is shown.
Condition Notes: Individually inspected: Guaranteed to play perfectly or your money back.
