Review KOKOPELLI is a tone poem based on the humpbacked flute player of local Indian legend. Instrumentation is especially rich, for the musicians utilize bamboo flutes, panpipes, raintree, brass bells, Peruvian clay pipes, ashika, coconut shells, tongue drum, zube tube, acoustic guitar, Congo drum, keyboards, and tambourine. Adding more texture are the natural sounds of eagles, hawks, owls, doves, water, thunder, crickets - and even kittens and babies. Liner notes tell us that the three musicians on the record not only make their own instruments, they actually grow the bamboo the flutes are made from on their own property. KOKOPELLI is a rich work, at times subtle, at times overt, but always pleasing - not surprising since the group's music is frequently used in self-realization and healing workshops throughout the country. About the Artist Terrell's Magic Flutes is composed of three musicians; Terrell Jones, Diane Jones, and David Mikeal. They began composing and recording together in 1985, creating relaxation recordings that are used worldwide by therapists, hospital workers, hospice volunteers, office staff, and schoolteachers. Their recordings feature the handmade flutes and panpipes made by Diane and Terrell, and the soothing nature sounds that they are surrounded by, from the Blue Ridge Mountains cottage where they live, to the bamboo groves of primeval Florida, where they harvest the material for their flutes. In David's music studio, the three musicians weave these natural harmonies into their recordings. They perform at many art and craft shows each year.
