mozart-great-piano-concertos-1
Mozart: Great Piano Concertos
Amazon.com

Decca has gotten around the perennial problem of filling Mozart Piano Concerto CDs by splitting No. 25 between two discs, giving us 155 minutes of Mozart for the price of a single top-line CD. The performances are top-line, too, if you like big-orchestra Mozart. Ashkenazy performs this music in a public, large-auditorium style, without the intimacy or niceties we hear from period instruments or from such pianists as Richard Goode and Mitsuko Uchida. His own cadenzas for three of the concertos are also very extroverted--and, alas, not very imaginative. Also, there are a few moments when the orchestra might have benefited from a firmer hand on the tiller than the pianist-conductor can provide. Overall, though, these are dramatic, involving Mozart performances, even if their style belongs more to the past than to the present. --Leslie Gerber

Product description

Mozart: Great Piano Concertos Nos. 20, 21, 23, 24 & 25 - Vladimir Ashkenazy, Philharmonia Orchestra / Double Decca / Decca 2x Audio CD 1997 / 452 958-2 UPC 028945295824 /// Label: Decca – 452 958-2 Series: Double Decca Format: 2 x CD, Compilation Country: Europe Released: 1997 Genre: Classical Style: Classical //// Tracklist: Piano Concerto No. 21 In C Major, K467 1-1 I Allegro Maestoso 14:44 1-2 II Andante 7:53 1-3 III Allegro Vivace Assai 6:34 Piano Concerto No.24 In C Minor, K491 1-4 I Allegro 14:24 1-5 II Larghetto 8:14 1-6 III Allegretto 9:22 Piano Concerto No.25 In C Major, K503 1-7 I Allegro Maestoso 15:48 2-1 II Andante 7:32 2-2 III Allegretto 8:41 Piano Concerto No.23 In A Major, K488 2-3 I Allegro 11:16 2-4 II Adagio 7:30 2-5 III Presto 8:06 2-6 III [Allegro] 3:55 Piano Concerto No.20 In D Minor, K466 2-7 I Allegro 15:15 2-8 II Romance 10:40 2-9 III Rondo: Allegro Assai 8:22 /// Art Direction – David Chase (3) Composed By – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Engineer – Andrew Pinder (tracks: 1-1 to 1-3, 2-3 to 2-5), John Dunkerley (tracks: 1-7, 2-1, 2-2, 2-6 to 2-8), Kenneth Wilkinson (tracks: 1-1 to 1-6, 2-3 to 2-5) Liner Notes – Jeremy Siepmann Liner Notes [French translation] – David Ylla-Somers Liner Notes [German Translation] – Andreas Klatt (2) Liner Notes [Italian Translation] – Claudio Maria Perselli Liner Notes [Spanish Translation] – Luis Carlos Gago Orchestra – Philharmonia Orchestra Piano, Conductor – Vladimir Ashkenazy Producer – Christopher Raeburn
ASIN: B0000041LF
VSKU: DBV.B0000041LF.G
Condition: Good
Binding: Audio CD
Note: Any images shown are stock photographs and product may differ from what is shown.
Condition Notes: Individually inspected: Guaranteed to play perfectly or your money back.
