About this item

Amazon.com Hey, dude, let's do some serious kayaking. If Nurpu (the Tibetan symbol for mountains and rivers) had a little more dialogue, that's what you'd hear, over and over and over. For this is whitewater kayaking in the vertical extreme, a Warren Miller-style homage, channeled through Generation X. A team of 20 kayakers (mostly guys), including a couple of pro paddlers, drop down waterfalls and cartwheel through challenging river rapids in 14 countries, including Nepal, Bali, Austria, Canada, and Chile. The footage is astonishing, as are the moves of the paddlers, who control their kayaks like second skins in this hormonally charged wild-water ride. "The Making of Nurpu," also on the DVD, adds much-needed insight to the 45-minute main attraction, which is short on narrative and relies on the action footage and hip-sounding music to carry the day. Behind the scenes, the gifted filmmaker and team members discuss the one-year odyssey that took them around the world, where every day was "an epic powder day" on water. --Valerie J. Nelson
