Swish -- A Guide to Great Basketball Shooting

From the Contributor Rediscovering the "Lost Art" of Shooting! In this highly-acclaimed presentation, Tom Nordland teaches a simple and coachable method of shooting anyone can "get." You could say he’s "figured out" how great shooting occurs and how it can be learned and taught. After discussing the four "Keys" of great shooting Tom then proceeds to show you how to learn them, step by step. The Release, the most important aspect to be learned, can be a motion that minimizes variables and ensures both accuracy and repeatability. The main power source can become what Tom calls the "UpForce," the powerful lower-body action commonly called "leg lift," "leg drive," etc. When you shoot early and quick from this power source, shooting becomes easier, more predictable. The higher the percent of UpForce used, the quicker, higher and more stable the shot becomes. The Swish Method is about how to MAXIMIZE big muscles and MINIMIZE variables. In a line, it’s about "Controlling the Flight of the Ball." Tom addresses the "Fundamentals" of shooting, but most attention is on the application of Swish principles to generating and controlling ball flight: How to achieve Accuracy, Consistency and Repeatability. His section on Free Throws is a strikingly clear and simple look one of the games easiest shots. Yet it’s a shot that’s a source of frustration to many players. He shows how the Free Throw can become just that, a free "shot," a free "point," not an occasion to embarrass yourself. Tom addresses the "mental" aspect of shooting, and some some creative shooting exercises in the Appendix. Swish concludes with a "Bonus" section of 20 different players shooting beautiful rainbows into dead center ... Swish! These clips demonstrate clearly how simple and universal this approach is, how "encouraging" it is, as one parent put it. Great shooting doesn’t have to be the realm of only the highly gifted and athletic players. Anyone can do the simple things this presentation reveals! Review I like Tom's approach better than any video to date. I applaud this approach and give it my highest rating -- Ken Lindsay of "Coaches Corner" website. I wish I had this video 40 years ago! Now I will be a better shooting coach with future players -- Dr. Jim Gels of Coach's Clipboard website. Of many videos I've seen, this one stands above the rest. The section on free throws is worth the price alone. --Guy Power of "Power Basketball" website. Swish is an excellent teaching tool for both the coach and player. I give this video an A+. --Michael J. Wells of "Coach Wells" website. You'll find yourself nodding in agreement as he explains things you already knew ... and save you years of learning. --Steve Jordan of "The Coach's Notebook" website. A product of the 50's, Tom is considered one of the greatest high school shooters ever from the state of Minnesota. For over 25 years now Tom has been studying shooting and how to coach it and now offers this remarkable coaching technology to the world. His website, swish22.com, is a valuable shooting resource, with his many articles, top endorsements, amazing reviews and testimonials, his background, video clips, etc. He has now produced three full-length instructional videos on how to learn and coach shooting with this method, this being his first. Tom lives in Boulder Creek, California, with his wife, Jeanne, and teaches shooting wherever the Internet reaches.
