Based in Brighton, Phil and his company Seventh Art Productions make films for cinema and television. In 2001 Phil directed Muhammad Ali: Through the Eyes of the World, which has been seen in over 100 countries. The Boy who Plays on the Buddhas of Bamiyan, which Phil filmed and directed in Afghanistan during 2002/2003, has played in cinemas and on television worldwide. To date, it has won 11 awards, including first prize at Valladolid International Film Festival, and the Gold Hugo in Chicago for Best Film, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. In early 2006 Phil completed the first ever feature-length documentary on the life of Mozart, In Search of Mozart, which contains performances and interviews with dozens of today's finest performers. It premiered at London's Barbican has already broadcasted on twenty channels across the world. Working with co-director David Bickerstaff, he has also just completed Half Life: a Journey to Chernobyl, which uses Mario Petrucci's poetry collection Heavy Water to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Our latest feature documentary Escape from Luanda (1 x 75') beat hundreds of applicants to be one of the lucky projects to receive the Sundance Institute's sought-after documentary grants. Now in the final stages of editing, news regarding the film's release will be imminent.
