About this item

This edition is the 1888 authorized English translation of The Communist Manifesto, written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in 1848. The Communist Manifesto is one of the most influential political documents in history. It outlines the foundational principles of Marxist philosophy and provides an analysis of the class struggles of the time. The Communist Manifesto has been translated into over 100 languages and has been studied around the world in universities, schools, and other educational institutions. It is a powerful tool for understanding the development of the modern world. The Communist Manifesto begins by outlining the various classes of people in society and how they interact with each other. It explains the exploitation of the working class by the ruling class, and the consequences of this exploitation. It goes on to discuss the need for a revolutionary class struggle and the formation of a new society in which all people are equal and free. The manifesto ends with a call to action, urging the proletariat to take up arms and fight for a better world. The Communist Manifesto is one of the most important documents in modern history. It has inspired generations of activists and intellectuals and has been the source of much debate and discussion. Its relevance and importance have endured over time and it remains a key text for understanding the development of the modern world. This pocket edition is designed to be convenient enough to easily fit in a pocket, purse, briefcase or backpack, but with text large enough that it is easy to read, and margins large enough to be marked up by students of any age. Karl Marx (1818-1883) was a German philosopher, economist, sociologist, historian, journalist, and revolutionary socialist. He is one of the most influential figures in the history of human thought and is widely regarded as the father of modern socialism and communism. Born in Trier, Germany, Marx studied law and philosophy at the University of Berlin. While there, he became deeply interested in the ideas of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, who had recently died. He wrote his doctoral thesis on the philosophy of nature. Marx developed the theory of historical materialism, which argued that all human societies develop through a process of class struggle. He argued that capitalism, the dominant economic system of his day, was inherently exploitative and would eventually lead to a revolution. Marx and his collaborator Friedrich Engels wrote The Communist Manifesto, which outlined the theoretical basis of communism and served as a rallying cry for socialist activists. Marx and Engels also wrote many other works, including The German Ideology, The Poverty of Philosophy, The Communist Manifesto, and The 18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte. They also wrote several volumes of Das Kapital, which describes and critiques the capitalist system. Marx's writings have had an enormous influence on the development of modern economics, sociology, and political theory. His ideas have been adapted by various socialist and communist movements around the world. He is remembered as an inspirational and radical thinker who helped bring about radical social and economic change. Friedrich Engels (1820 - 1895) was a German socialist philosopher, author, political theorist, and father of Marxist theory. He is best known as the co-author, with Karl Marx, of The Communist Manifesto, and is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of socialism. His works, such as The Condition of the Working Class in England, The Origin of the Family, Private Property, and the State, and The Role of Force in History continue to shape the way we think about politics, economics, and social justice. His legacy continues to inspire people around the world.
