The Illustrated History of Hearst Castle is a comprehensive chronology of the California estate of 20th century millionaire-publisher William Randolph Hearst. This high-quality book is 144-pages, 9" x 12", and features hundreds of archival photographs to document the fascinating story of the construction and events that have made Hearst Castle one of California's premier visitor attractions.
During the 1920s and 1930s the beautiful 127-acre estate was the social gathering place for many of the era's most famous celebrities,including; Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin, Howard Hughes and Winston Churchill. The Illustrated History of Hearst Castle uses numerous photographs gleaned from a wide variety of archives; many of them not previously published. The nearly 30-year construction process blended the gardens, pools and buildings with a museum-trove of antiques from Egypt, Greece, Rome and Medieval Europe. The photographs have been meticulously researched and are informatively captioned; including use of period letters and historical accounts. The final chapter is filled with full-color contemporary photographs of Hearst Castle's beautiful buildings, pools, gardens and artwork.
