About this item

We may pride ourselves on being the most rational of our friends and colleagues - especially on social media! - but our thinking can go wrong in so many ways, many of which we may not even recognize. From cognitive biases to fallacious reasoning, the perils of bad thinking are everywhere. However, it is possible to avoid these traps and think better, faster, more efficiently, and yes, even with less bias. In these 24 half-hour lessons, award-winning Distinguished Teaching Professor of Philosophy Patrick Grim will provide you with numerous strategies to help you be more creative, logical, inventive, realistic, and rational in every area of your life. These tips come from history’s greatest thinkers: Plato, Aristotle, Einstein, von Neumann, and more. Hone your critical thinking skills with a blend of theoretical and hands-on learning that is unlike anything you’ve ever learned in a traditional classroom. Whether you’re trying to decide which wine to bring to a dinner party or weighing the sides of a fiery political debate, these lessons will help you think more rationally so that you can always make the optimal choice. Join us on a tour of great minds through the ages, and see how they employed the strategies of The Philosopher’s Toolkit to develop their magnificent ideas. When you complete this course, you, too, will immediately be able to apply these strategies to nearly every aspect of your daily life - helping you simplify problems, think more creatively, and make better decisions.
