About this item

They were as mean and tough as the outlaws they hunted, but they wore a badge. These five documentaries feature the real stories behind the Wild West's most respected lawmen. Documentaries included: Wild Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Tom Horn and Elfago Baca. Also included are ten western movie classics starring Lee Van Cleef, John Wayne, Pernell Roberts, Donald Sutherland, and more. A must see for every western fan. Films included: Dan Candy's Law, The Grand Duel, Deadly Companions, Sheriff of Tombstone, The Trail Beyond, The Star Packer, Yuma, Four Rode Out, Song of the Gringo, and The Outlaw. Dan Candy's Law (1974, Color, Rated PG, 93 Minutes): When a Canadian Mountie is killed by an Indian, his partner tracks down the man to avenge the death. The Grand Duel (1973, Color, Rated R, 92 Minutes): The titular duel pits hard-bitten gunslinger Clayton (Lee Van Cleef) against the equally gritty Saxon (Horst Frank). Deadly Companions (1961, Color, Not Rated, 90 Minutes): Yellowleg (Brian Keith), a former sergeant in the Union army, is obsessed with tracking down Turk (Chill Wills), a Rebel army deserter who, during the War Between the States, tried to scalp him as he lay wounded on a battlefield. Sheriff of Tombstone (1941, B/W, Not Rated, 60 Minutes): In this western, Roy Rogers and his sidekick Gabby get into all kinds of trouble when they ride into Tombstone and find themselves mistaken for the hired gun and his assistant. The Trail Beyond (1934, B/W, Not Rated, 57 Minutes): Loosely based on a story by pulp writer James Oliver Curwood, this Lone Star Western released by Monogram starred a young John Wayne helping an old family friend (James Marcus) find his long-lost brother and niece. The Star Packer (1934, B/W, Not Rated, 53 Minutes): The Star Packer casts "the Duke" as U.S. marshal John Travers--hoping to flush out a mysterious outlaw chieftain known only as "The Shadow." Yuma (1970, Color, Not Rated, 73 Minutes): A tough marshal is sent to clean up a lawless western town. Four Rode Out (1969, Color, Rated R, 99 Minutes): In this western, a Mexican desperado tries to flee his partner, a determined girlfriend, and a US Marshal. Song of the Gringo (1936, B/W, Not Rated, 62 Minutes): In his film debut, Tex Ritter is sent to investigate miners being killed and their mines confiscated. The Outlaw (1943, B/W, Not Rated, 123 Minutes): Billy the Kid (Jack Buetel) and Doc Holliday (Walter Huston) are close friends until lawman Pat Garrett (Thomas Mitchell) attempts to ambush Billy and put him behind bars.
